The Trip To Barcelona
Join Rod MacDonald and The House Concert group for a week in Spain in October 2010!

The House Concert group has a few spots available for our next trip abroad. The group, which has previously held trips to Scotland, Nova Scotia, France and Tuscany, has rented the villa at Can Cunill, Spain for the week October 9-16, 2010, and is accepting new fellow travelers.

The villa is a spectacular vacation home first built in 1583 with two swimming pools and all modern conveniences. To learn more about the house and grounds, location, history, and the surrounding area, click here
The House Concert trips are done on an equal cost-sharing basis; this means that everyone shares the cost of the house rental equally. The cost of the house rental is 3600 Euros, and since we have about 18 sleeping spaces, each person should expect to pay the equivalent of 200 Euros or whatever share of the total number who attend (the last two trips have sold out in advance).
    Please contact
Mark Stenzler, (mark.stenzler@active.ch) for further information, to reserve a spot, or make payment. The actual dollar amount will be based on current exchange rate at the time of payment to Euros, plus any conversion fees, so that 200 Euros are paid toward the house. Any overpayment will be refunded.
You can also email Rod at rodmacd@aol.com with any questions, but all reservations and the house payment must be made to Mark.

The only other charge is $250 per person for the music, payable directly to Rod MacDonald prior to the trip. Rod plays a full length concert each day or evening, depending on everyone's schedule. In addition Rod may arrange some musical events outside the house, if the possibility exists in the community.

Please note: Reservations are welcome, but no one is confirmed until their share of the house rental and music charge have been paid.

Transportation and meals are your own responsibility. The house is equipped with a full kitchen and dining area, and we try to eat most meals as a group, with people taking turns cooking and cleaning up or taking care of themselves. We also arrange some excursions as a group, to nearby restaurants or sites of interest, as the week progresses.
More than an inexpensive way to see a beautiful corner of the world in comfort, much less costly than hotels and restaurants for every meal, the House Concert trips are a time for good company and the enjoyment of Rod's music.  And if you're traveling in Europe around that time, the villa is an excellent place to spend a relaxing week, a good base for tourist-ing during the day before returning for the evening.
Can Cunhill is about an hour by train from downtown Barcelona, in the area of Catalonia 22 km inland from the Costa Brava. Nearby towns are Girona and Sils for shopping and sight-seeing. Attractions in the area include Barcelona, one of the world's great cities architecturally and culturally, the city of Tarragona (formerly a Roman city and today a UNESCO World Heritage site) and also PGA golf, the Mediterranean Sea, and plenty of fields, forests, cathedrals and small towns.

Mid-October in Spain has fewer crowds and milder temperatures.
